Pakistan Rope In Shane McDermott as All-Format Fielding Coach: Reports

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly appointed Shane McDermott as the new fielding coach of the national team. An official announcement is yet to be made.

McDermott steps into the role as PCB looks to revamp its coaching setup following a series of underwhelming performances. He replaces Mohammad Masroor, who had been handling the fielding coach responsibilities on a series-by-series basis.

The Australian has prior coaching experience in high-performance programs. He has worked for various international and domestic teams across Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia and Afghanistan.

Shane McDermott Replaces Mohammad Masroor as PCB Overhauls Coaching Setup

Mcdermott’s appointment comes on the recommendation of Pakistan's white-ball coach Mike Hesson, who recently joined the team.

Alongside McDermott, the PCB has brought back Grant Luden as the strength and conditioning coach. Luden is a familiar face in Pakistan cricket, having worked with the national side before.

McDermott and Luden’s appointments come at a time when the PCB is making multiple changes. Just recently, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood was named as the head coach for the Test team. Mahmood is expected to guide the team during an important period with the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle underway.

There is also strong speculation that Salman Agha is set to be named as Pakistan’s all-format captain. If confirmed, this would bring an end to Shan Masood’s tenure as Test captain and Mohammad Rizwan’s’s stint as ODI skipper.

Pakistan Hit Reset Button Ahead of Bangladesh T20I Series

The PCB wants to hit the reset button after a stretch of inconsistent performances on the international stage.

Pakistan will next play against Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, starting July 20 in Dhaka.
