As per reports in Cricbuzz, several franchises including CSK, are interested in trading Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals. While CSK has confirmed that they are looking to trade Samson, there are other franchises in the pipeline as well.
A senior CSK official has confirmed CSK's interest in Samson but nothing official has been made on the decision as yet. Chennai Super Kings finished last on the IPL 2025 points table, having won just four games last season.
Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals also had a poor season, where they won just four games as well. However, the CSK official admitted the franchise having an interest in Sanju Samson while admitting that no formal communication has been made with the Royals management as yet.

Sanju Samson Trade Speculations Gather Momentum
CSK are trying to keep up their tradition of having another wicketkeeper-batter as captain of the franchise after the legacy MS Dhoni has created. MSD yet again led the team last season after Gaikwad's poor start. But eventually they finished last.
The CSK official confirmed their interest in Sanju Samson while adding that they are not sure as to which player they are likely to trade in place of Samson.
"We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold. Who we will trade him with we have not taken that call because the matter has not gone that far. But yes, in principle, we are interested," the CSK official, involved in the decision-making process, told this website on the condition of anonymity.
The conundrum for the like-for-like replacement has already started. As per reports, Ruturaj Gaikwad's name has come up as a likely option. However, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said that they appointed Gaikwad as captain with a long-term thinking. Meanwhile, Samson was RR's first retention as 18 crores and Gaikwad was also retained by 18 crores by CSK, hence the speculation.

Trade Window Open For CSK
The trading window is currently open and there are further reports that other teams apart from CSK are also interested in Sanju Samson as multiple team needs a keeper-batter.
It is being reported that the deal is unlikely to reach a conclusion anytime soon. Rajasthan Royals team owner, Manoj Badale is yet to speak anything officially on the matter as the speculations continue to grow. That multiple franchises are interested in Samson apart from CSK is confirmed.
