KKR Spinners Varun Chakravarthy

KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy sympathized with SRH spinner Zeeshan Ansari after the bowler was denied Ryan Rickelton's wicket in the MI vs SRH contest at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 17.

Chakravarthy's response to the controversial call was met with a mixed response on social media. However, the KKR spinner was very direct with his message, which was loud and clear for everyone.

The incident happened in the seventh over of the MI innings when Zeeshan dismissed Ryan Rickelton. He was then batting on 21 runs off 18 balls. However, the third umpire called the delivery a no-ball and recalled the batter who almost reached the pavilion. The reason behind calling the delivery a no-ball has surprised everyone.

The umpire affirmed the delivery as a no-ball because SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen's gloves happened to be before the stumps when Ansari bowled the delivery. Thus it was called a no-ball based on technicality.

Varun Chakravarthy, in his response to the same, claimed that the delivery should have been ideally called a dead ball instead of the umpire penalizing the bowler by calling it a no-ball. On top of that, it was also ruled a free hit, and the batter also got a life when he was actually out.

"If the keeper's gloves come in front of the stumps, it should be a dead ball and a warning to the keeper so that he doesn't do that again !!! Not a no-ball and a free hit!! What did the bowler do???? Thinking out loud!! What do u all think???" Chakravarthy wrote on his post.

Meanwhile, by the rule book of the ICC, it was a no-ball, as Klassen's gloves were ahead of the wicket at Zeeshan's delivery stride. The MCC law clearly states that the keeper needs to remain completely behind the stumps at the striker's end before the ball touches the bat or passes the stumps.

Rickelton was finally dismissed by Harshal Patel after he scored 31 runs off 23 balls by Harshal Patel. MI took seven balls to score the winning run and lost two wickets at 162 runs just to make the match interesting. In the end, they grabbed the two crucial points and moved up to the seventh spot on the IPL 2025 points table.
