Dasun Shanaka joins Gujarat Titans

Former Sri Lankan captain and all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been signed by the Gujarat Titans as a replacement for the injured Glenn Philips.

Gujarat Titans acquired Shanaka for his base price of ₹75 lakh. He previously played for the team in the 2023 season, participating in three matches but struggled to make an impact, scoring only 26 runs. Additionally, the team did not utilize his bowling ability during that season.

Glenn Philips, who was signed for ₹2 crore during the Mega Auction, managed to play only one match this season against Sunrisers Hyderabad before sustaining a groin injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

He is the second player, along with Kagiso Rabada, unavailable for some matches, with his return remaining uncertain as indicated by the team's management.

Dasun Shanaka is well-known for his all-around skills and has experience leading Sri Lanka in limited-overs formats. His remarkable innings against Australia, which helped secure a victory for his team, has been regarded as one of the best T20I performances of the decade.

Gujarat Titans Roaring Strong

Gujarat Titans are currently enjoying a successful season, having won four out of their first six matches. The team has been consistent in scoring runs and excelling in chases. Sai Sudharsan stands out as the leading run-scorer, amassing 329 runs at an average of 54.83, proving to be the most dependable batsman at the top of the order. He is well-supported by Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler.

On the bowling front, Sai Kishore leads the team with 10 wickets at an average of 16.8, closely followed by Mohammed Siraj, who has also taken 10 wickets while performing well with the new ball. Overall, the Titans have had a strong start to the season and currently hold the second position in the IPL 2025 points table.
