CSK sign up Dewald Brevis for IPL 2025

South African batting maverick Dewald Brevis has joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as an injury replacement ahead of their upcoming game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 20.

Brevis was signed up by CSK as an injury replacement for pacer Gurjapneet Singh.  They were able to sign Brevis as they had an overseas slot left in the team roster.

Brevis was signed up by CSK for 2.2 crores; however, his base price was just 75 lakhs at the end of the mega auction last year. Brevis joining the side can solve their batting woes heading into the second half of the tournament.

CSK is already missing the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is ruled out for the rest of the season with an elbow injury. MS Dhoni is currently leading the side, and they picked up a win in their last game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Despite not playing too many T20Is for South Africa, Brevis has already made a name for himself in franchise T20 cricket. He has been compared to former South African batter AB De Villiers time and again. The right-hander has played 81 T20s overall and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162.

He has also played 10 IPL games for Mumbai Indians and has proved his potential with the bat. Brevis continues to play for MI in the MLC and SA20 leagues. He was in good form in the SA20 league earlier this year. The young right-hander was among the top 10 batters with the best strike rates in the tournament. Brevis finished with the highest strike rate of 184.17. He is expected to link up with the side before CSK's next match against MI.

Before Brevis, CSK also signed up young Ayush Mhatre as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad who is ruled out of the season with an elbow injury. The Super Kings are currently placed at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with just two wins from their first seven games.
